The Watchers – Six for Sunday -writing prompt from Easily Mused

Posted by on April 23, 2012 in Flash Fiction, Recent | 6 comments

This was the six for Sunday writing prompt from Easily Mused, they also added a choice of Sentence prompts to begin writing with. (The one I chose is in bold letters).  The six words were –  Silver – ashes – justify – flagrant – grain – time.

The watchers

It was a day filled with the lies of a thousand mouths. Time had done nothing to change the human race.  As I moved through the crowded streets, their voices spun around me like a whirl wind, filling my mind with their untruths.

We had tried to help them, guide them, but our efforts slipped through their fingers and their thoughts like grains of sand falling. Their flagrant attitude is what enables us to justify what we must do if this world is to ever evolve into something better.

They’ll not see the silver flashes come from the sky until its too late. We will reduce their lies to ashes so that they may be reborn.

  1. @Tomara thanks glad you enjoyed it and I agree AJ did a splendid job. ^_^

    @Kemari Thank you so much, I loved that starter sentence. I may turn this into a Friday Flash, I’ll give it some thought. ^_^
    @Sue Thanks!

  2. Very good — you did a great job with the sentence and fitting in the words. Very dramatic!

  3. I loved it, Helen! Great job. I was really hoping someone would pick one of the sentence starters too, but here, you’ve gone and used the words as well.

    I think this could even go further, become a longer story. Maybe you’ll write about this again? :)

  4. Very cool post using the prompts. It love it when short pieces say so much. Awesome work… you too, AJ Hayes.

  5. See AJ they’re lying again ;) Loved the response :)

  6. Loved it Lady H. Proper ending for a planet of liars. It inspired a bit of a response from another view. :)

    The contrails of the dropping missles are silver dancers on the ashes of our world. The mushroom clouds grow like mostrous grain across the face of the globe. We will not answer your speech. It is a mere flag rant in praise of your alien banner. It is the End Time and we will not justify our acts. We will die free and haunt your dreams.
